On 18th Feb 23 Dorset Taekwondo Association took fourteen competitors up to compete in various different categories at Alis London Open. There was 341 competitors from clubs across the UK.

Coming into the 2023 season we had a lot of competitors where it’s their first time competing in a new category. This didn’t change our teams mindset and strong performances and good nerve control was shown by all.

Whilst this competitions wasn’t about medals we still won a lot! It was about solid performances – and that’s what we got.

Emily, Inara and Savannah gave strong performances but in categories of 20 competitors they finished just outside the medals.
Lucia made it into the final 8 but finished just outside the medals too.

Nicole and Leah in the U17 Dan did really well with Nicole showing improvements and finishing with her best score just outside the final 8. Leah in her first black belt category stormed into the final just behind some regular team GB players. Her final performances were good scores with poomsae she has only recently learnt – she finished just outside the medals.

Lydia and Karla both medalled and did exceptionally well in hard categories.

Tom gave a great performance finishing with Silver; Jemma and Master Naraine finished with Bronze medals.

Several other medals were won by our club in teams and pairs.

We have yet to see the final medal tally but Dorset Taekwondo definitely finished in the top 10 even with a small team.

Everyone keeps on improving and this was a good competition to start the season. Well done everyone!
